7.0 mag. earthquake strikes in Pacific Ocean near New Caledonia
NEW CALEDONIA – A 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of the French territory of New Caledonia.
The earthquake hit in the Pacific Ocean northeast of the capital city of Nouméa.
The USGS initially issued a tsunami warning for the surrounding areas.
That tsunami warning did not extend to the upper west coast of North America, according to the National Weather Service.
