Board to vote on Golden as interim education chief
SALEM, Ore. (AP) The Oregon Education Investment Board will consider appointing retired Springfield Public Schools Superintendent Nancy Golden as the state's interim chief education officer.
The board will consider Golden's appointment on Monday. She would take over from Rudy Crew, who was appointed president of Medgar Evers College in New York City.
The chief education officer is responsible for overseeing Gov. John Kitzhaber's effort to improve student achievement and streamline Oregon's education system from preschool through college. The position was created last year.
Golden is a close Kitzhaber ally and briefly served as his education policy adviser.
