Low health scores, failures: From Antoni's to Sushi to Go

Antoni's on SW Canyon Road in Beaverton calls itself an American diner with a Mediterranean flair, run by a family with years of experience in restaurants. However, it failed its latest health inspection with a grade of 54. Below 70 is failing.

The inspector wrote on the health report that the ice machine had extreme amounts of slime/fungal growth inside. The report said many things in the kitchen were dirty or greasy. The inspector found gyros in the temperature danger zone, where it could grow germs that could make you sick, and no sanitizer in the chemical dishwasher to clean germs off of your plates.

The inspector noted, "Operators do not demonstrate adequate knowledge with regards to cross contamination, food temperatures, chemical storage, or sanitation."

The inspector returned for the mandatory post-failing inspection. If the restaurant fails a second time, it could be shut down. The restaurant earned a 92. The inspector found more food in the temperature danger zone and a dishwasher that was not hot enough to do the job properly, among other violations.

The manager told us by phone that customers do not need to worry, the violations have been fixed, and there is now a "complied" health department sticker on their restaurant.
