A white deer? There's one roaming our area

GRESHAM, Ore. - A white deer was spotted in Gresham over the weekend.Larry and Mary Harris of Damascus slowed down their car to capture the deer on camera. They then sent the photo to the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and got a response from Donald J. VandeBergh, a district wildlife biologist.

VandeBergh explained that the animal is a black-tailed deer with piebald condition, an inherited trait that results in white hair coloration. He said most fawns born with the condition do not survive to maturity because it's usually associated with skeletal deformation, organ function problems and problems with physical development.
