Ready to do some whale watching on the Oregon coast?
NEWPORT, Ore. -- A group is gearing up for a weekend of whale watching on the Oregon coast.
The Oregon Chapter of the American Cetacean Society is hosting Summer Whale Watch Weekend on July 27 & 28.
The event will run 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Rocky Creek State Park in Depoe Bay.
The group says the event is free, and whale watchers will be able to get some information from group members.
The society says summer is an excellent time for whale watching along the Oregon Coast because the Gray Whales are in closer to shore feeding and there are better viewing conditions.
The shore-based whale watching will provide people with information on whales, dolphins, porpoises and their habitats, conservation and the American Cetacean Society.
