One week later: A tribute to the MAX train heroes

Flowers line the wall at the Hollywood Transit Center and messages of hope, of love and of tribute are scrawled upon it in honor of the three men who put themselves in danger to stand up against hate. Two of those men made the ultimate sacrifice. (KATU Photo)

We learn at an early age that there are no guarantees in life. Not even life itself.

Nowhere was that more evident than on the MAX Green line train one week ago.

Witnesses say a man began hurling anti-Muslim epithets at two teen girls. And that's when three men stood up to the hate. Two of them paid for their actions with their lives. The third was seriously injured.

In the above video, we pay tribute to those men: Ricky Best, Taliesin Myrddin Namkai Meche, and Micah Fletcher. Best and Namkai Meche were killed. Fletcher was in the hospital for days, but survived.
