Your Voice, Your Vote: Portland's energy audit ordinance; Sen. Sanders stops by KATU
Your Voice, Your Vote kicks off December by covering a proposal facing city commissioners that would force Portland homesellers to pay for an energy audit before they sell their house.
Supporters like Jana Gastellum of the Oregon Environmental Council say the information will help the environment and homebuyers.
“A lot of people have moved into homes only to find out - that their first winter - they have a $1000 energy heating bill,” said Gastellum.
Realtors say they support lowering the carbon footprint, but a mandate is not the way to do it.
“I feel like this is another loop that sellers are being forced to jump through,” said realtor Nick Krautter.
Also, Vt. Senator Bernie Sanders stops by KATU studios to talk about the need to unite working people and to get the government to address their problems.
