Diamond Ducks win 1st series against ranked opponent

EUGENE, Ore. - Ryon Healy hit two home runs to lead No. 13 Oregon to a 6-4 win over No. 21 Stanford in Pac-12 Conference play at PK Park on Saturday in front of 3,892.

Healy hit a pair of two-run home runs to right field and finished 3-for-3 with four RBI and two runs scored. The Ducks' first baseman started the scoring with a two-run shot in the first inning putting Oregon (23-10, 15-5 Pac-12) on top 2-0 after one.

He added the second two-run shot in the fourth capping a three-run inning to give the Ducks a 6-1 lead. Healy's two homers gave him nine for the season and the four RBI ran his season total to a team-best 40.

The junior is the second Duck to hit two home runs in a game this season, joining Scott Heineman who did it in a win at California earlier this month.

Brett Thomas, who was on base both times Healy homered, was 2-for-4 with a RBI and two runs scored. Thomas drove in his run with two outs in the second inning after Shaun Chase and J.J. Altobelli singled in front of him. Altobelli finished the game 2-for-2 with two walks in four at bats.

Oregon's other run came in the fourth inning when Connor Hofmann tripled to right center and scored on a wild pitch by Stanford (23-14, 9-8 Pac-12) starter Dean McArdle, who took the loss and fell to 2-2.

Freshman Cole Irvin (8-2) got the win allowing four runs, two earned, on 10 hits in seven innings. All-American Jimmie Sherfy picked up his 14th save. He struck out two and allowed one hit and a walk in two innings.

Oregon clinched the weekend series with the win after beating Stanford 2-1 on Friday night. The Ducks will look for a sweep Sunday when they host Stanford in game three at 12:30 p.m. at PK Park. Jake Reed (5-3) will get the start for Oregon.
