Timbers prepare for Sunday's crucial match against Sounders

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Timbers are preparing for one of the biggest matches in their three-year history in the MLS.

Portland will play host to the Seattle Sounders at 6 p.m. Sunday at Jeld-Wen Field in a match with enormous postseason ramifications.

The Timbers sit in third place in the Western Conference, a point behind Seattle and two points bhind Real Salt Lake with three games left to play.

Portland played at Seattle twice this season, losincg once and drawing once.

Portland has never made the playoffs. It will close the season at home against Salt Lake on Oct. 19, then on the road at last-place Chivas USA.
