Week 4: A Friday night with big games in SW Washington

Each week during high school football season KATU sports photographer Mike "Rossy" Rosborough previews the upcoming action on High School Blitz, which airs Friday nights at 11:35 p.m. Here's Rossy's look ahead at week 4:

When we look at the schedule for games to consider on the Blitz, we look at where the best action is. Action meaning big plays, bigger crowds, the best competition ... what you look for at the end of a Friday night. We can't get to them all, but we sure try to pick the cream of the crop.

For example, our "Game of the Week" this week is a 4A Greater St Helen's League showdown between Skyview (3-1) at Camas (4-0). The Storm, last year's 4A champ, heads east to Doc Harris Stadium to take on the Papermakers, 2011's 3A champs. Camas has looked more than ready for the jump to 4A and Skyview's only loss was a close one early to Central Catholic on the road. Nate Bynum and his stellar road crew will be live with the winners of this slugfest.

SW Washington has two other games in the show. Battleground (4-0) versus Evergreen (2-2) is the first game of a double-header at McKenzie Stadium, followed by Union (3-1) against Heritage (0-3). Pressure will be on Battleground and Union to keep pace with the GOW winner. It'll be a good night of GSHL action.

Across the Columbia, the Mt. Hood League gets underway and we want to look in on the contenders. The first stop will be at Gresham (4-0) as they host Centennial (1-3). The Gophers, off to hot start in non-league, are looking to take the line of scrimmage away from the Eagles' "mud, blood and veer" offense. If they succeed, Centennial won't get the ball enough to win.

At MHCC, Reynolds (3-1) pits their high-flying air attack against Central Catholic's power game. The Rams' preseason (2-2) was a murderer's row that earned them the top RPI going into Friday, having seen Sheldon, Lake O and Jesuit already. If they continue to clean up their penalties and miscues, I think the Raiders will come up short in a high scoring game.

"Thomas Tyner watch" continues as the Warriors of Aloha (4-0) travel to Westview (2-2) in Metro play. Having seen Gresham torch the Wildcats for some big runs last week, have to think Aloha will do the same with Tyner. Stay tuned for this one.

Lake Oswego takes their juggernaut into the Lion's Lair of West Linn, opening the Three Rivers League season. The Lakers moved into the #1 spot this week and face a test at the Lion's home turf. West Linn will have to throw the ball better than they have to stay with a strong and balanced LO side.

West Salem (3-1) visits Lincoln (0-4) where the Titans, early frontrunner in the Central Valley look to be catching the Cardinals in a down cycle as they trend up. That's not a good sign for Lincoln.

Looking to Salem, McKay (2-2) and McNary (1-3) slug it out for their first league win. Over to Silverton for a big 5A contest, West Albany (4-0) meets the Silver Foxes (4-0), two scoring machines so far this year and a great matchup that features the Bulldog's Jake LaCoste, a highlight film in his own right being eclipsed by Tyner's awesome performance. We''ll have video of his latest performance all cued up on Friday night.

Last but not least, our first look at 5A #1 Sherwood (4-0) as they venture into town to meet Liberty (1-3) in Hillsboro. Expect the Bowmen to shoot down the Falcons early. Apologies for the Steve Dunn pun.

That's our lineup, so feel free to join us for the fastest 30 minutes on Television ...The BLITZ!! We're on Friday night at 11:35 p.m. See you from the sidelines, friends.
