Winterhawks fall 3-2 in Everett
The Portland Winterhawks (16-5-1-1) dropped a 3-2 decision Friday in Everett against the Silvertips (15-3-4-0).
Everett got first period goals from Manraj Hayer and Tyler Sandhu as they took a 2-0 lead into the second period.
Sandhu struck again with a power play goal 1:19 into the second period to make it 3-0, which remained the score going into the third.
The Hawks got on the board 1:31 into the third on a goal from Oliver Bjorkstrand, and got within one when Derrick Pouliot scored a power play goal at the 4:21 mark to cut Everett's lead to 3-2. The Hawks continued applying pressure, dominating play throughout the period with a 15-4 advantage in shots on goal. However, the Silvertips kept them from getting the equalizer and escaped with the win.
Nic Petan picked up assists on both Portland goals in the loss.
Brendan Burke played well in net for the Hawks but took the loss in net with 33 saves on 36 shots. Austn Lotz picked up the win for Everett with 26 saves on 28 Portland shots.
Portland was 1-5 on the power play and 3-4 on the penalty kill.
The Hawks are back in action tomorrow when they travel to Kamloops to take on the Blazers.
