Jusuf Nurkic, the 'Bosnian Beast' practices with Blazers for the first time
TUALATIN, Ore. —
The Portland Trail Blazers’ new big man got a crash course on the team’s offense Tuesday as Jusuf Nurkic took part in his first practice since being officially acquired from Denver on Monday.
The 7 foot, 280-pound center from Bosnia and Herzegovina will make his Blazers debut on Wednesday in Utah.
Nurkic will provide something the Blazers haven’t really had in years – a low post presence.
He made it clear that he’s excited to play with two premiere guards like Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum.
“I have never played before with those kind of guys. … I can’t wait to play with them,” he said.
“He’s strong. He’s a strong guy,” McCollum said about Nurkic. “He’s able to hold his own down there; he can contest shots.”
Nurkic has never played with any of the current Blazers, so they don’t just have to get used to his game, they have to figure out what they’re going to call him.
But McCollum says “Bosnian Beast” is out.
“I’ll probably just call him ‘Nurk.’ I’ll ask him what he wants to be called,” he said.
