Valerie Hurst joined KATU News in August 2008. She didn't have to go far, coming from KIMA-TV in beautiful Yakima Valley, Washington where she was a reporter and evening anchor. She previously worked for Cable News 2 in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
Valerie has earned local and regional awards during her career, including an Emmy nomination in 2009. Some of her most memorable career moments are reporting for Good Morning America from the Oregon coast during the Tsunami scare of 2010 and reporting for CNN during the big winter storm of 2008.
Valerie grew up in the Boston area and graduated from the College of Communication at Boston University. Though a part of her may always be a "city girl", she loves the beauty of the great outdoors here in the Northwest.
She lives in Portland with her husband William and their two daughters.
