Strawberries Romanoff

Serves 4-6

  • 1 quart strawberries, trimmed and sliced
  • 1 cup sour cream (not light sour cream)
  • ½ cup mascarpone cheese
  • 4 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2-3 tablespoons brandy or Grand Marnier (or more to taste)
  • Chocolate Shavings (optional)
  • Cubed Angel food cake (optional)

Place the sliced strawberries in a bowl and sprinkle with 2 tablespoons of the brown sugar. If desired, you can add a tablespoon or two of liquor to the strawberries.

In another bowl, whisk together the sour cream, mascarpone cheese, 2 tablespoons brown sugar and 2-3 tablespoons (or to taste) of the liquor. Allow the cream to sit for about 5-10 minutes to allow the sugar and liquor to infuse the cream. Whisk again before using.

To serve, place strawberries in the bottom of a dessert bowl, martini glass or small wine glass and then top with the spiked cream. Garnish with chocolate shavings if desired.

Optional: Place angel food cake in the bottom of a martini glass, dessert bowl or small wine glass and then top with the strawberries. Garnish with a generous dollop of spiked cream and sprinkle with chocolate shavings.
