Professional Artist Elida Field stopped by with a fun art project to make your Thanksgiving table setting extra special.

Autumn is here and Thanksgiving is right around the corner! Capture the beauty of this season by using fall leaves to create festive seasonal decorations. Make your own table runner, tablecloth, or placemats by just using leaves and spray paint. You could even make a paper runner or use cardboard placemats and each person could personalize their own. This project has endless potential and even the spray painted leaves can be reused as decorations on the table.

Materials:

~Metallic spray paint (I prefer the metallic gold by Rustoleum)

~acrylic gold, silver or bronze paint ~arts and craft brushes

~table runner, placemats, or large cloth napkins

Making Autumn Leaf Art Prints:

1. Lay down your table runner or placemat on a clean surface.

2. Arrange your leaves in a whimsical way across the surface of the placemat or table runner.

3. In a well ventilated area, spray paint over all of the leaves with your metallic paint The end result will have the table runner showing through in a leaf shape while the surrounding area is painted gold or silver.

4. After it dries, you can use it normally, you can even wash it if necessary. Once the acrylic paint dries, it doesn’t usually peel or ?ake.

Now enjoy your Thanksgiving!

Extra Ideas: Use the opposite side of the leaf and print onto your napkin or table runner. You just paint the raised side of the leaf, then press it onto the surface and roll over the top with a brayer. You can print on any surface, so use them for personalized name tags or even other prints.
