Hundreds of workers at the Nabisco-Kraft bakery in Northeast Portland have gone on strike.
They lined up outside the building Tuesday waving signs and chanting. About 200 workers are involved.
At the top of their list of concerns is they say the company is pushing for a non-traditional workweek.
Right now, overtime is paid for employees that work Saturday and Sunday. The workers say the company is trying to change that.
“Going to an alternative workweek would have people working the weekends on straight time. The company just wants to avoid paying the overtime. It's all about the money," said Cameron Taylor, business agent for Local 364.
Employees said they're planning to picket 24/7 until their demands are met.
Nabisco directed KATU to a statement, saying in part that they're disappointed the union chose to strike. While they did not mention the workweek changes, they did list several items they say they offered the union, including wage increases, more 401(k) matches, and a four-year contract.
