New Hillsboro teachers prepare for school year with three-day orientation
Classes for students in the Hillsboro School District won't start until next week, but new teachers are already preparing for the school year with a three-day orientation.
The "Summer Summit" orientation is for brand new teachers -- and teachers new to the Hillsboro School District.
"I think initially it's like being a deer in the headlights. We had some walk in to a session this morning and to see what to expect," one teacher said.
David Savage, who spent 26 years teaching in Wisconsin, attended the orientation at Century High School.
"It's great to place myself in that same scenario, and now I'm the new kid. I don't know anything, I don't even know my way around the school!" Savage said. "If you're gonna be excellent at this game, you have to stay on top of it, and that's what this is about."
Students return to class next Tuesday.
