Movie Trailer: 'I, Tonya' a gritty dark comedy about figure-skating star Tonya Harding
If the movie is anything like the trailer, then “I, Tonya” will be gritty, funny and full of salty language.
The trailer for the movie, based on the true story of Tonya Harding, one of the most infamous and mysterious people to ever come out of the Northwest, was released on Wednesday.
Margot Robbie plays Harding.
The dark comedy centers on the attack on Harding’s rival figure skater, Nancy Kerrigan, in 1994.
Allison Janney plays Harding’s chain-smoking mom who constantly berates her daughter.
“I made you a champion knowing you’d hate me for it. That’s the sacrifice a mother makes,” Janney’s character says in the trailer.
After the attack, Kerrigan withdrew from the competition and Harding won it.
Harding’s ex-husband, Jeff Gillooly, accepted a plea deal in exchange for testimony against her. Gillooly and three others served prison time. Harding did not by pleading guilty to hindering the prosecution.
The movie is expected to hit theaters Dec. 8.
