A man is recovering in the hospital after being shot Tuesday night near the Sauvie Island Community Church, and the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office said it has arrested a suspect.

The shooting was reported just before 7 p.m.

The man who was shot was in stable condition at the hospital.

Initial reports say the man was not associated with the church, aside from the fact that some of its members rushed out and started first aid until emergency responders arrived on-scene.

On Wednesday, deputies detained a person of interest in the case at a home on NE Sacramento Street and then later arrested him.

Brett Kage Andre, 28, was taken to jail and faces charges of attempted murder, assault, robbery unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful use of a weapon.

Sheriff’s detectives are investigating. They don't believe the public is in any danger.

Anyone with helpful information is asked to call the sheriff's office tip line at (503) 988-0560.
