Cirque du Soleil is coming to Portland in April, but if you like acrobatics, modern dance, music and more, you don’t have to wait.

The A-WOL Dance Collective is rolling out its spring performance next week. The show is called “Left of Center.”

A KATU photojournalist who taped a preview Wednesday night said he found it deeply moving and somewhat unsettling. At one point, the dancers depicted a bad dream.

“I would say it’s a bit unique to the person who has attended a general dance performance in that the movement is a little bit more quirky, and then in the way we take it to the air, as well. (It) just adds another component to it,” said co-director Alicia Doerrie.

“Left of Center” opens Friday, Feb. 16 and runs for three weekends.

You can catch a free community performance Monday at the A-WOL studio on Northeast Grand and Schuyler.
