Albany area firefighters join battle against northern California wildfires

ALBANY, Ore. – The Linn/Benton Strike Team is sending 22 members to Santa Rosa, Calif. To fight the wildfires that have destroyed thousands of buildings and killed dozens of people.

Firefighters from the Albany Fire Department took an engine on Wednesday to California.

Many of these crew members worked the Chetco Bar Fire and the Eagle Creek Fire.

Philomath Fire and Rescue, Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance, Lebanon Fire District and Corvallis Fire Department also deployed firefighters to help the cause.

Crews are usually deployed for up to two weeks at a time.

Albany Fire Department plans to fill the open positions with overtime personnel.
