Beaverton PD: Suspect steals video lottery winnings, witnesses hold him down for officers

BEAVERTON, Ore. – Several people at a Beaverton Shari’s restaurant held a would-be robbery suspect on the ground until officers could take him into custody on Saturday, police officials said.

Reports came in about 2:30 p.m. for a robbery at a Shari’s restaurant.

According to witnesses, someone had just won some money playing video lottery. Christopher James, 34, is accused of hitting the lotto winner in the head, stealing the winnings, and trying to flee on a bicycle.

Bystanders grabbed James and kept him from leaving the restaurant. Officers arrived and took James into custody.

The victim in the case is expected to survive the head injury, and their winnings were recovered.

James was booked into the Washington County Jail on third-degree robbery charges.
