Below-freezing temperatures keep ice on Gorge roads a little longer
Below-freezing temperatures Wednesday will likely keep the Gorge covered in ice for another day.
A system carrying snow, freezing rain and a wintry mix has dumped snow and ice over the Gorge for the past few days, leaving many roads quite messy.
Wednesday morning, Oregon Department of Transportation officials had to shut down Interstate 84 in both directions for about two hours at the Bonneville Dam because of crashes involving semi-trucks.
Western portions of the Gorge remain in a Winter Weather Advisory until 6 p.m. Wednesday. Temperatures will remain below freezing for much of the afternoon, and will finally begin to moderate somewhat overnight into Thursday.
