PORTLAND, Ore. — The Portland Police Bureau, in partnership with Crime Stoppers of Oregon, is asking for the public's help to identify the suspect in a shooting that injured a bicyclist earlier this month.
On May 5 at approximately 10:22 p.m., 42-year-old Michael Hilbrandt was riding a bicycle eastbound on East Burnside Street near 12th Avenue.
Police said there was a car pulled over and blocking the bike lane between Southeast 12th and 13th Avenues, on East Burnside Street.
Hilbrandt rode around the car on the driver side, and tapped on the window, to allow the driver to know he was passing on the left. Hilbrandt told police that he believed he saw a woman near the car but did not know if she was in anyway associated to the car.
He then rode southbound on Southeast 13th Avenue. Immediately after turning onto 13th, Hilbrandt could hear screeching tires and believed the vehicle he had passed was coming to run him over. Police said Hilbrandt then rode to the east side of 13th, near Southeast Ankeny Street.
The driver of the car, described as a silver or gray, small SUV, approximately 3-4 years old, pulled over near where Hilbrandt was standing.
The driver, described as heavyset Black male, 30-40 years old, said, "I'm going to shoot you," and proceeded to shoot the bicyclist one time, hitting his arm.
Police said the suspect then drove out of the area to the south and was not located. The woman that was standing near the vehicle was not found and it is unclear if she is associated to the suspect.
Crime Stoppers of Oregon offers cash rewards of up to $2,500 cash for information, reported to Crime Stoppers, that leads to an arrest in any unsolved felony crime and tipsters can remain anonymous.
