VANCOUVER, Wash. – A Southwest Washington lawmaker has introduced a bill proposing a third bridge over the Columbia River between Vancouver and Portland to ease the current commute nightmare.

Republican representative Vicki Kraft from Battle Ground says upgrading or replacing the I-5 bridge is just not enough, because of the bottleneck at the current location.

The proposed river crossing would be to the west of the Interstate Bridge.

The bill is in the very early stages. It proposes the state spend $300,000 to hire a consultant to look at options.

The study would give conceptual designs and a cost estimate for each one, then report back by December 1 of 2019.

As of now, the measure has just been referred to the house transportation committee.
