A 4-year-old boy who was struck by a driver in Sherwood Friday afternoon has died.

The boy was struck in the parking lot of the Creek View Crossing Apartments in the 21000 block of SW Cedar Brook Way around 2:30 p.m.

He suffered life-threatening injuries, but was pronounced dead shortly after.

Chris Marks, who lives at the apartments, witnessed it all.

"I saw everything. I just saw a car come in, a car come around the corner, and then hit the kid, and the kid go down," Marks said. "I feel sadness and disgust and just like disbelief ... any loss of life is bad, but when it's a small child, it's like, you've got to be kidding me."

Marks added that people speed in the complex's parking lot all the time, adding he himself has almost been struck several times.

Karly Nielsen, 10, says she and her friend were riding a bike around the complex when they heard their friend screaming and crying outside.

"She said that her brother was just hit by a car, so we were just like, 'What!'" said Nielsen. "We were confused and scared and sad."

Karly's mother, Natalie Nielsen, says her five children always play outside with children in the neighborhood, including the family of the boy who was killed. She says the death was felt by all the parents who live at the complex.

"It could've been my kids. It could've been my younger kids for sure. They play in that area almost every day," she said.

The driver remained on scene. Police are looking into whether speed was a factor. No word on charges or citations.
