Security guard beaten to death in Vancouver identified
VANCOUVER, Wash. – The Clark County Medical Examiner identified the on-duty security guard found dead in Vancouver Monday and confirmed his death is a homicide.
The medical examiner said 83-year-old Benjamin O. Lyons, of Vancouver, died as a result of multiple sharp and blunt force injuries.
"I would like to say goodbye to him and tell him that I love him again," his widow, Frances Lyons, tells KATU.
His body was found in a Vancouver parking lot in the 2800 block of Southeast Columbia Way shortly after midnight Monday.
Lyons had worked for KnightHawk Protection for about a year.
"He was pretty much married to his job," Frances Lyons said. "He was rambunctious and energetic."
Frances had grown up with Ben in Baltimore. Their homes were just a few doors down from one another, but they didn't know each other well. Until one day Frances' siblings tried to set the pair up.
"Why don't you get coffee with Ben?" She recalls them asking.
They were married in 1960 and eventually moved to the Pacific Northwest. Ben Lyons was a big John Wayne fan, the family's home is decorated with photos of the iconic actor. Peppered in the array of framed photos are a few of Ben on the set of those old Western towns.
"I still can't believe it," Frances Lyons said on his passing.
