I-205 northbound reopens at Powell Blvd. after crash involving police patrol vehicle

PORTLAND, Ore. – A crash involving a Portland police patrol vehicle closed Interstate 205 northbound at Southeast Powell Boulevard Tuesday morning.

According to Portland Police Bureau, the crash was reported at 12:20 a.m. on I-205 northbound south of Division Street. A witness reported a police vehicle was involved in the crash.

When officers arrived on scene, they saw a Portland Police Bureau officer was involved in the crash and was pinned in the vehicle.

First responders extracted the officer and took him to a nearby hospital.

Police say the officer suffered serious injuries, but is expected to survive.

The other person involved in the crash, a woman, was also taken to a local hospital, police said. She also suffered serious injuries, police said.

Investigators say the officer pulled over near a construction site when a driver in a dark-colored SUV struck the officer from behind.

The Portland Police Bureau’s Traffic Division’s Major Crash Team is investigating.

I-205 northbound reopened at around 5:30 a.m.
