Crews fill huge hole along Oregon Hwy 42S, one lane back open
BANDON, Ore. – Highway 42 South is back open near Bandon Monday night after recent flooding caused a 50-foot section of the pavement to collapse.
The collapse happened last Wednesday night (April 10) around 10 p.m. near milepost 5.4 after adverse weather blocked a culvert.
Authorities said that a passenger was hurt when two drivers crashed into the hole, which was an estimated ten feet deep.
Crews installed a new culvert filled the hole with roughly 1,800 tons of rock.
Currently there's only one lane open in each direction. Flaggers are on-scene providing traffic control until the section of road is paved later this week.
Drivers should expect brief delays in the area.
