Man convicted of attempted rape thanks victim for ‘fighting back, for not giving up’

PORTLAND, Ore. – A man accused of grabbing a woman from behind and trying to push her in a car was convicted of attempted rape Friday.

David Abraham Marcus was sentenced to 90 months in prison as part of his plea deal.

The victim, who was 22 years old at the time of the incident, was not in court.

However, Marcus read a statement and thanked the victim for “fighting back, for not giving up, and for inspiring me to change.” He also apologized for his behavior.

The incident occurred on June 22, 2016. The woman said she was walking home from QFC near Southeast Milwaukie Avenue and Duke Street just after midnight when a stranger grabbed her and tried to push her inside a car.

The woman fought and screamed at the stranger and managed to get away.
