MCMINNVILLE, Ore. – The Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office found heroin hidden inside a woman’s body while she was being booked into jail.

According to the sheriff’s office, 31-year-old Amberann Renee Lane, of McMinnville, was originally arrested on charges of first-degree theft and possession of heroin.

During the booking process, Lane was put through the sheriff’s office body scanner and it found an additional gram of heroin and two plastic bags inside her.

“People are beginning to realize there are no free passes when you try to smuggle drugs into our facility” said Sheriff Tim Svenson. “Our body scanner is doing exactly what I intended to do. It’s protecting our staff and inmates by catching contraband early in the booking process. Those caught will be charged and prosecuted.”

Lane is now facing additional charges for supplying contraband and unlawful possession of heroin.

She is being held on $50,000 bail.
