Deputies: Man accidentally shot teenage son in Aloha


ALOHA, Ore. – A man unintentionally shot his teenage son in Aloha Thursday morning, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a report of a shooting in the 21500 block of Southwest Peggy Court at 2:39 a.m.

Investigators say Brian, Matsuo, 38, accidentally shot his 16-year-old son while he was retrieving a handgun.

The teen was seriously injured, but doctors expect he will survive.

He was taken to a local hospital in an ambulance.

Detectives from the Violent Crimes Unit are investigating and will share their findings with the Washington County District Attorney’s Office.

Officials released the following tips for firearm safety:

  1. Always treat all firearms as if they were loaded.
  2. Never allow the muzzle of any firearm to point at anything you are not willing to shoot.
  3. Never put your finger near the trigger until you are ready to fire.
  4. Always be sure of your target, and what is behind and in front of it.
