Deputies: Remains found in Horse Ridge wilderness likely that of missing Bend woman

Sara Gomez and Brian Penner

The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office says a hiker may have found the remains of Sara Gomez, the woman who went missing from Bend in February.

Deputies say the hiker found human remains wrapped in a tarp in the Horse Ridge area.

Investigators believe it is Gomez, but are waiting on the medical examiner for official confirmation.

Gomez' ex-boyfriend was wanted in her disappearance, but he killed himself in jail.

The Bend Police Department is waiting for crime lab results on if blood found in her boyfriend's apartment belongs to Gomez. Bloody ropes, blood puddles and smears of blood were found when investigators searched the residence, police said.

Police said they don't know when to expect the results back.
