Deputies: Woman called 911 saying she was lost after stealing boat, lawn mower

LINCOLN CITY, Ore. – Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call from a woman Tuesday night who said she was lost and scared. When they responded, they discovered the caller had tried to commit a burglary before getting her vehicle stuck.

Deputies said they received the call from the woman around 8 p.m. They responded to do a welfare check on the woman who said she was lost and scared near the Keys Place in Lincoln City.

Around 8:40 p.m. deputies arrived in the area and found Desirae J. Zaher, 32, of Merlin, on private property near the Siletz Bay National Wildlife Refuge.

Deputies determined Zaher had driven onto private property where she lodged her vehicle in dense brush and could not drive out.

Investigators found various items including a boat and a riding lawn mower near Zaher’s vehicle and determined the items were stolen from nearby storage buildings.

Deputies found evidence to link Zaher to the burglary and thefts.

She was taken into custody and lodged at the Lincoln County Jail for second-degree burglary, aggravated theft, first-degree criminal mischief and second-degree criminal trespass. Her bail is set for $180,000.
