PACIFIC CITY, Ore. – A 31-year-old man died Thursday morning after crashing his pickup into a power pole along Highway 101 outside Pacific City, Oregon State Police said.

Troopers were called out about 6 a.m. on reports of a collision on Hwy 101 near the Brooten Road intersection, near the community of Cloverdale.

Initial reports say that Dustin Ford, of Tillamook, was driving south in a 2001 Dodge pickup when for some reason he crossed the center lane and went off the road, striking a power pole.

Ford was pronounced dead at the scene

The power pole fell across the road, and a southbound log truck ended up getting tangled in the power lines.

The truck driver wasn’t injured in the collision.

Troopers closed the highway for several hours as Tillamook People’s Utility District restored power to nearby residents.

Oregon State Police responded to another crash on Highway 101 in roughly the same area that also brought down power lines.
