A driver struck and killed a 52-year-old Beaverton man Monday night, officials said.

The crash happened at TV Highway and 178th Avenue just before 9 p.m.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office says as a passerby was calling 911 to report the incident, a Metro West ambulance came upon the scene and rendered aid to the pedestrian. The man was taken to the hospital where he died.

The sheriff's office later identified the man as James Dougherty, 52, of Beaverton.

Deputies said the driver stayed at the scene and cooperated.

During the investigation, deputies learned a 32-year-old Beaverton man was driving a black 2004 Jaguar X-Type eastbound on Southwest Tualatin Valley Highway when he struck the man in the roadway.

It wasn’t immediately known if weather was a factor in the crash, but impairment wasn't believed to be a factor.

Authorities closed eastbound TV Highway between 173rd and 185th avenues. They reopened shortly after 1 a.m. Tuesday.
