Everyday Heroes: Al-Amir owner provides 1,000 meals a week to foster kids, students

On most any day you’ll find Lydia Maasaad in the kitchen at Al-Amir, the Lebanese restaurant her family has owned for 30 years in downtown Portland. (KATU)

Maasaad started the non-profit Feeding Kids in our Backyard through the Our Giving Table initative after visiting her son's high school. Students were bagging up snacks for children at local schools to take home for the weekend. But they were mostly empty calories. (KATU)
