Frosty, icy start for Christmas morning; prepare for dangerous road conditions

Ken Meyer

Road conditions across the metro area and into the Gorge are expected to be treacherous for Christmas morning, following Sunday's wintry mix that brought freezing rain and snow to much of our region.

Expect snow to mix in with rain and freezing rain overnight and into Christmas morning, and eventually turn into rain. Snow will continue falling in the Cascades and the Gorge.

Temperatures will warm up in the Portland metro region above freezing, and a brand of rain will move in by 6 a.m., sticking around for the majority of the day.

If you absolutely have to drive, especially during the early morning hours, drive slowly and cautiously. Use Trip Check to see if there are road closures or crashes.

Most importantly, do not abandon your car.
