Federal, state and local firefighters worked to put out a brush fire on Pilot Butte Wednesday evening.

The fire forced the closure of Highway 20 and people living in apartment units next to the butte had to evacuate.

The fire burned about 10 acres of brush. It started at the base of the butte and quickly spread because of the winds.

The fire affected power lines, and thousands of power customers lost power for about two hours.

Firefighters are still investigating what caused the fire. But a witness told local media two men pulled into a parking lot and lit two roman candles. The sparks lit a nearby tree on fire.

The fireworks show on the top of the butte went on as scheduled.
