FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Forest Grove police arrested a man Monday who they say faked a burglary at his own home.

According to police, 40-year-old Brian Couture is facing charges of initiating a false report and second-degree theft. Couture was lodged at the Washington County Jail.

Police say on March 6, at around 10 a.m., Couture called 911 and reported that someone entered through a sliding glass door at his home and that some sort of struggle had occurred. He said the alleged suspect before officers arrived.

Police used a K-9 to track the suspect, but didn’t find anyone.

Couture eventually admitted to police that he staged the incident. Police believe he made up the scenario in order to hide money that was stolen from a non-profit organization and spent inappropriately.
