Former Rex Putnam HS track coach, counselor accused of sexual relationship with student
OREGON CITY, Ore. – A counselor and track coach at Rex Putnam High School was indicted on sexual abuse charges for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a student during the 2013/14 school year.
Law enforcement officials said the investigation started in September 2014 after the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office and Rex Putman staff learned that Ryan Mitchell was having an inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old student.
Mitchell was the victim’s track coach and counselor.
Oregon City Police said that Mitchell was immediately placed on administrative leave and he later stopped working for the district.
The Clackamas County District Attorney filed the secret indictment against the 38-year-old Mitchell on September 27 on three counts of second-degree sexual abuse.
He turned himself in on Monday, Oregon City Police said.
Parents received a letter about the indictment on Wednesday. KATU News has reached out to the North Clackamas School District, we have yet to hear back.
