ASTORIA, Ore. – Emergency responders closed down Highway 30 just east of Astoria Tuesday night after a natural gas leak, the Oregon Department of Transportation said.

The leak was reported about 6 p.m. near milepost 95.

Officials said the leak was under control and the highway was back open at about 7:15 p.m.

NW Natural said a relief valve system lifted to release gas into the air when there was a change in pressure in the line. Officials say this is what the system is supposed to do.

NW Natural responded and adjusted the pressure in the line.
