Girl hosting speaker on consent for her birthday party
A Portland girl will be spending her birthday not thinking about herself but about others.
Instead of focusing on presents and parties, Irie Page is turning her attention to the greater good.
On Thursday, the day before what will be her 14th birthday, she’s paid for Mike Domitrz to deliver a speech.
Domitrz, through his Date Safe Project, lets young people know about consent and when kissing is OK.
“The program is called, ‘Can I Kiss You?’ It’s really focusing around the idea, if you don’t ask someone, you could be assaulting them if they didn’t want you to kiss them or whatever it is,” Page said.
She paid the $6,500 speaking fee through GoFundMe.
The event is geared toward young people, but everyone’s welcome to Page’s birthday celebration. It’s Thursday at 7 p.m. at Portland State University in Lincoln Hall, Room 175.
