Governor Kate Brown is looking at potentially reopening the Willamette Falls locks, which would let boats travel beyond the falls.

In her 2019 proposed budget, $7.5 million is set aside to help repair the locks, which were shut down in 2011.

The money comes from federal sources along with the Oregon Lottery.

The locks are 145 years old and they were closed down after they fell into disrepair.
