Highway 26 closed in Sandy for deadly hit-and-run investigation

A pedestrian was found dead on Highway 26 in Sandy on Tuesday night and police suspect a driver hit him and left the scene.

Police were called a few minutes after 9 p.m. to Highway 26 near Southeast Vista Loop Drive.

Police said the evidence they found at the scene indicates the pedestrian was hit in the westbound lanes of the highway.

The pedestrian was a man but police have not yet released his name, pending notification of family members.

Officials have closed the highway as they investigate. They diverted traffic around the closure.

The road reopened shortly after 2 a.m. Wednesday.
