I-84 west ramp to I-5 south reopens following maintenance closure
PORTLAND, Ore. – The Oregon Department of Transportation reopened the Interstate 84 westbound ramp to Interstate 5 southbound Monday night.
The ramp was scheduled to reopen at 5 a.m. Monday, but it was delayed until 10:30 p.m. after crews found damaged rebar beneath the road’s surface while making repairs.
The four on-ramps to the westbound freeway between I-205 and I-5 are also now open. This was the third of three critical summer ramp closures where I-5 and I-84 meet.
ODOT replaced the concrete and steel on the ramps that are more than 50 years old and carry about 147,000 vehicles a day. The work includes replacing the bridge joints that link the ramps, removing the existing concrete, repairing metal below the concrete surface and replacing a new concrete surface.
