ASTORIA, Ore. – The National Weather Service in Portland issued a special weather statement Saturday warning the public of an increased risk of sneaker waves Sunday.

The weather service says areas along the North Oregon Coast, Central Oregon Coast, and South Washington Coast will be at risk.

“A building and powerful swell will provide the potential for

dangerous sneaker waves along the Washington and Oregon coasts on

Sunday,” the weather service said.

According to meteorologists, water may rise father up on beaches than it had within the previous 30 minutes. It could easily sweep unsuspecting beach-goers into the ocean.

The weather service asks the public to use caution while recreating on local beaches Sunday.
