Oregonians have a new place to have fun indoors this winter. K1 Speed opened its first location in the state in late November 2018. It's an indoor racing facility with 100% electric karts that can go up to 45 mph.

"It's intense and It's addicting. The customers get out of the kart and they just want to be back out there again," says General Manager David Schulte.

He tells KATU that you can't find these karts many other places.

"These are our new, first-class karts. There are only a few facilities that actually have these, so they're the fastest out there, and the most safest as well." He says the best part is that you don't have to deal with the fumes and the noise of gas go-karts.

Schulte says safety is a priority.

"Everybody is briefed with all of our safety rules in regards to our flags, how to operate the kart correctly, how to reverse if you spin out and also how to completely secure yourself in the kart," he said. Everyone wears a helmet and a seat belt.

There's also an arcade, a lounge with food and beverages and private party space. You can even rent out the entire facility for your group.

There's no age requirement, but all junior racers need to be at least 4' tall.

All teen/adult racers need to be at least 4'10" to race the larger, faster karts.

A 14-lap race costs $22. The races get cheaper the more you buy.

An annual membership costs $6, , but you can get a Speedpass which includes two races, an annual membership, and a t-shirt for $55.
