Kinship House receives hundreds of books for local kids in foster care
Foster kids in Portland now have hundreds of books at their fingertips, thanks to donations through the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators.
The Kinship House was one of only two organizations nationwide selected for the program earlier this year.
Salastina, who was in foster care as a child, said she understands the impact this can have on the kids.
"It's one of those once-in-a-lifetime opportunities that we get to come in and see that somebody else cares," she said.
Each foster child will receive a book, and books will also be used in a lending library.
