Landslide causes Clark County to close road in Washougal
WASHOUGAL, Wash. – A landslide caused officials to close Washougal River Road in Washougal shortly after midnight Friday.
The Clark County Sheriff’s Office says the road is closed near milepost 4.
The road will remain closed until further notice because the hillside is unstable, officials said.
The Clark County Department of Public Works is on scene and will reopen the road when it’s safe for motorists.
The sheriff’s office asks drivers to avoid the area.
Public works says it's a relatively small landslide and will likely not take much time to clear. They're more concerned about the stability of the hillside; especially with the amount of rain predicted in the coming days.
A geotechnical consultant is responding to the scene to assess the situation.
